Upper West Side

Description

Before you compare different Upper West Side apartments, you should be aware of the merits and the demerits of living in the neighborhood. This will help you determine whether living in the Upper West Side is the best decision. The Upper West Side is primarily a residential neighborhood in the NYC borough of Manhattan. The neighborhood’s boundaries are between 59th Street and 110th Street and between Central Park West and the Hudson River.

One advantage of living in NYC apartment rentals in the Upper West Side is the impressive architecture. Most of the streets are still lined with pre-war brownstones and some of these are designated as landmarks. Brownstones are characteristic of Manhattan and if you live in the Upper West Side, you will feel like a true New Yorker. Do not be fooled by the age of the buildings. Most of the pre-war buildings in the neighborhood have modern amenities.

The Upper West Side has several townhouses and high-price co-op apartments. The co-op apartments form most of the housing in the neighborhood, meaning you can buy real estate through coop sales NYC. These attract celebrities, young families, and young professionals. This means getting an apartment for sale in Upper West Side might be possible, but you should be prepared to spend a big chunk of your savings. The Upper West Side is expansive and there are many Manhattan apartments and condo rentals to choose from. Most of these NYC apartments are no fee rentals.

Another advantage of living in the Upper West Side is the good transport network. Train A, B, C, D, 1, and 9 run through the neighborhood. Public buses also serve the neighborhood adequately. If you love culture, you should search for Upper West Side apartment rentals. On Broadway, you have the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts which is home to the world-famous NYC Ballet, Metropolitan Opera House, Avery Fisher Hall, New York Philharmonic Orchestra, New York State Theater, and several other theaters. The Upper West Side has a myriad of bars and restaurant and a very vibrant nightlife. If you want to enjoy being a New Yorker, this is the place to be. Other cultural attractions are the American Museum of Natural History, New-York Historical Society, Children's Museum of Manhattan, and the Rose Center for Earth and Space.

If your kids are in middle school or in high school, there are many schools in the Upper West Side. These include Abraham Joshua Heschel School, Alexander Robertson School, Beacon School, Bloomingdale School of Music, Anderson School, Collegiate School, Manhattan Day School, PS 75, Trinity School, York Preparatory School, and several others. If you want to attend a degree granting institution, this is the place to be. Some of the degree-granting institutions in the Upper West Side include Columbia University, Bard Graduate Center, New York Institute of Technology, Manhattan School of Music, Union Theological Seminary, and the Lander College for Women.

Other than the high property prices, other challenges of living in a rent apartment in Upper West Side that you should consider when deciding on Upper West Side real estate are the noise, the pollution, and the lack of parking spaces.
